ROANOKE, Va. – There's another step forward Monday for plans to have metered street parking in the city of Roanoke.
The Roanoke City Council approved a move today that will allow a pilot program to start in the middle of next month. For a 90-day period starting July 15, the city will see if the pay-by-the-hour method leads to better access and availability.
The current plans call for three metered zones in the downtown area, with the first hour free, a dollar for the second hour and $3 for the third.
On Monday, the council approved a change to the city code that will allow the use of the meters.
