New Martinsville police chief talks plans for the department

Chief Eddie Cassady started Monday

MARTINSVILLE – Today was Chief Eddie Cassady's second day on the job.

He replaces Chief Sean Dunn, who left Friday to be the chief in Williamsburg.

Cassady has been with the department since 1985.

He's been the deputy chief since 2014.

He said one of the main things he plans to do is continue working to help the city achieve crime-prevention certification.

"Some of our goals set ahead of us, which started even while Chief Dunn was here, was we're attempting to become a certified crime-prevention community. That is ongoing," Cassady said.

He also plans to continue to emphasize community policing in an effort to maintain the good relationship the department has with the community.
