Great Dane rescued by Alleghany Humane Society finds forever home

Jewel gained 45 pounds while with Humane Society

LOW MOOR, Va. – The Alleghany Humane Society has found a forever home for a Great Dane it rescued earlier this year.

Jewel has gained 45 pounds in the care of the Humane Society.

Animal control employees picked up the 7-year-old dog back in April from her owners after reports of neglect. At that time, she weighed just 81 pounds.

Her new owner, who lives in Roanoke, took her home Tuesday.

He learned about Jewel's condition on Facebook and as a previous Great Dane owner, it's a good fit.

Alleghany Humane Society staffers say she left in a convertible, looking like a queen.
