Cyclists go for unique ride in Halifax County to benefit God's Pit Crew

Cyclists cruised around Virginia International Raceway Friday

HALIFAX COUNTY, Va. – Some cyclists are helping out a local charity in a unique way.

Friday night, around two dozen cyclists donated money to God's Pit Crew and got to ride around Virginia International Raceway.

People could also donate money and walk, jog, or use any form of non-motorized transportation.

The money will be used to help cover the cost of rebuilding a bike shop as part of God's Pit Crew's Fire and Faith project.

The project helped a family in Gatlinburg, Tennessee rebuild after last year's deadly wildfires there.

"We thought it would be very nice for the community spirit," said VIR Track Rental Director Kevin Massey-Shaw. "What the community has done for us here in the Danville area, it's our chance to give a little something back."

Around $1,500 was raised from the event.
