Roanoke City Council starts livestreaming meetings

Council started to Facebook Live meetings Monday

ROANOKE, Va.

Roanoke City Council is now streaming all meetings live on Facebook.

They launched the initiative Monday.

Council members say one concern they have is how to respond to comments from the public on Facebook live.

Mayor Sherman Lea says it's all about getting people involved in what's going on in their community.

"Transparency is so important and I think we want our citizens to know what are the issues? What are we saying? It gives each council member or the citizens the opportunity to gauge the discussion that goes on and that's so important," Lea said.
