Thousands expected to race to Martinsville Speedway for annual Fourth of July celebration

Celebration includes concert, fireworks

MARTINSVILLE, Va. – A popular 4th of July celebration in Southside is expected to draw thousands of people.

On Monday, Martinsville Speedway was converted into a small carnival ahead of Monday night's celebration.

Festivities kicked off Monday afternoon and were scheduled to wrap up with a roughly 25 minute-long firework display.

Activities include carnival rides, food vendors, and a concert on the track.

"It's the one time that everybody can come out here and not spend any money and have a great time, put our differences aside, our political views and all that and just have a great night," said speedway president Clay Campbell.

"It's for the community. It's by the community. We have 60 sponsors that ponied up the money to put this thing on," Campbell continued.

This was the 19th year for the event.
