AMHERST COUNTY, Va. – One person is dead after a crash in Amherst County on Tuesday night, according to Virginia State Police.
A 2007 Subaru Legacy was traveling south on Route 29 when it ran off the right side of the road at 7:30 p.m. in an attempt to avoid a deer, but police say the car then hit a deer.

Mery Diaz-Campos, 42, of Revere, Massachusetts, died at the scene. Police say she was wearing a seat belt.
Police responded to the crash, just south Fletchers Level Road, at 9:17 p.m.
The crash remains under investigation at this time.
