Case against man charged in death of Carroll County deputy heads to grand jury

CARROLL COUNTY, Va. – The case against a man who's charged in the death of a police officer heads to a grand jury.

Joseph Lambert had a preliminary hearing in Carroll County on Friday.

A judge certified multiple charges against him, including felony counts of eluding police that resulted in the death of an officer and reckless driving.

Investigators said Lambert led deputies on a chase on Interstate 77 in March that ended up killing Deputy Curtis Bartlett.

During the pursuit, Bartlett's patrol car collided with a tractor-trailer.

Lambert is scheduled to be back in court in September.
