Southwest Virginia Wildlife Center of Roanoke named July's 3 Degree charity

Money raised by Storm Team Ten will pay for supplies to feed animals

ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. – July's Three Degree Guarantee charity of the month is the Southwest Virginia Wildlife Center of Roanoke.

The WSLS Storm Team guarantees the forecast temperature will be within three degrees of the actual temperature for that day and they're so sure they'll hit the mark, they'll write a check to that month's charity for accurate forecasts.

If the forecast temperature for that day is within three degrees of the actual temperature, they'll give a charity $10 for that day or $100 for a bull's-eye.

The nonprofit sits atop a mountain in Roanoke County and rehabilitates wildlife before releasing the animals back into their natural habitat.

Sabrina Garvin is the executive director and started the nonprofit 15 years ago.

“I started in 2002, started in a little room in my basement. I did 150 animals, and the next year it was 250, and each year it kept growing,” she said.

Last year, the wildlife center took in more than 1,800 animals, nursing them back to health in this facility.

Money raised by Storm Team 10 will pay for supplies to feed many of the animals.
