Crews respond to fire at old Blacksburg High School

Fire officials say they're investigating it as a suspicious fire

BLACKSBURG, Va. – UPDATE: The School Board is waiting to see how this fire could effect the sale of the building.

The $3,000,000 deal was approved this past April. to HS Development. However, the sale is still pending.

The developer was on scene last night, according to the School Board's Vice Chair, Connie Forgatte. "I understand that the developer was here earlier and is aware of what's going on. I'm sure we'll be talking to him soon, and it will be up to him whether he wants to proceed with this. We obviously hope he will, and it sounds like they got it under control quickly so hopefully the damage is minimal." Frogatte told WSLS 10's Rob Manch.

The extent of the damage has not been determined. Crews will begin the investigation into the cause of the fire this morning. Crews are treating it as suspicious right now, but there are no suspects.
