Police investigating shooting in Rocky Mount

A call came in that someone broke into home and was shot.

ROCKY MOUNT Va – A man is in the hospital after a shooting Friday night in Rocky Mount.

The Franklin County Sheriff's Office says it happened around 9 p.m.

A call came in that someone broke into a home and was shot. When police arrived at the residence, they found 33-year-old Billy Joseph Doss inside with a gunshot wound to the chest.

Jeffery Wayne Williams Jr.. 21, told police he shot Doss when he tried to enter the home.

Williams is charged with felony malicious wounding. He is being held without bail.

Doss was taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital. He was transported to Roanoke Memorial Hospital and is in stable but critical condition.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
