PHCC FabLab offering kids new way to prepare to go back to school

Lab will open Saturday for kids to make designs for their school supplies

MARTINSVILLE, Va. – Patrick Henry Community College's FabLab is beginning a new, family-oriented event, just in time for kids heading back to school.

This Saturday, kids and their parents can come in and use the vinyl cutter to make designs to put on their school supplies.

Registration is required and the cost is $15.

Each month, the lab will host a different event.

The lab has high-tech equipment like 3-D printers and laser cutters and is designed to give people a place to develop their ideas for products.

"They can see what the FabLab's all about. We'll be giving little mini tours and who knows, some of them people might enjoy this and want to come back and do more with that or do something else with the other equipment," said FabLab technician Christopher Wagoner.

The event runs from 10 a.m.-noon.
