ABINGDON, Va. – A former nurse was sentenced Tuesday to 48 months in prison for her part in tampering with liquid morphine that was intended for a nursing home.

Christina Lovern Calloway, 40, of Radford, previously pleaded guilty to one count of tampering with a consumer product while working as a nurse in a nursing home.

The Department of Justice said Calloway diverted morphine intended for patients to her own use, saying that on more than one occasion, she took some of the liquid morphine from a bottle and used it herself. She then used tap water to refill the bottle.

The DOJ said the diluted morphine was administered to patients.

Calloway was sentenced in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Virginia in Abingdon.
