Memorial service to be held for Danville Utilities worker killed last month

Service scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at Averett University's North Campus

DANVILLE, Va. – A memorial service will be held Saturday for the Danville Utilities worker who died on the job in July.

Samuel "Sam" Thompson, 63, was electrocuted July 6 while working on a power line on Applewood Drive in Pittsylvania County.

Thompson had been a Danville Utilities lineman for over 20 years.

Saturday's service will begin at 11 a.m. at Averett University's Grant Center at the university's North Campus, located at 707 Mt. Cross Road.
