Patrick County man died in motorcycle crash

CARROLL COUNTY, Va. – A 31-year-old Patrick County man died in a motorcycle crash on Monday afternoon, according to state police.

Winfred Dawson, of Ararat, Virginia, was driving a 2013 Suzuki motorcycle south on Route 679 (Wards Gap Road) when police say it crossed the centerline at about 4 p.m. as it entered a curve near the intersection of Route 686 (Epworth Road).

The motorcycle struck a northbound 2015 Chevrolet 2500 pickup truck head on and Dawson was ejected from the motorcycle, according to police. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Dawson was flown via MedFlight to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in North Carolina, where he later died.

The driver of the truck -- Charles E. Busick, 65, of Ararat, Virginia -- suffered minor injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital.

The Virginia State Police Wytheville Division Crash Reconstruction Team is assisting with the ongoing investigation.
