CAMPBELL COUNTY, Va. – A 26-year-old man faces two charges after officials with the Campbell County Sheriff's Office say he shot a woman twice early Tuesday morning.
The Sheriff's Office responded to the 3000 block of Eastbrook Road at 4:22 a.m. after a woman was reported as having been shot twice.
She had been riding in a vehicle with three other people in that area when she and the suspect exited the vehicle, and the suspect then shot her twice in the upper body with a small caliber handgun, according to the Sheriff's Office officials.
The suspect and passengers then left the area in the vehicle they had been riding in, officials said.
The victim was able to make contact with a local homeowner, who notified law enforcement and rescue.
Curtis Jerel Hayden, of Huddleston, has been charged with malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
The victim was transported to Lynchburg General Hospital and is hospitalized in stable condition.
The Roanoke City Police Department assisted in this investigation by arresting Hayden Thursday morning without incident.
