DANVILLE, Va. – The deadly shooting of a Danville teen may be gang related.
That's according to the police department.
Nitaya Adams, 16, was shot around 3 a.m. Sunday in the 700 block of Paxton St. and died a short time later at the hospital.
Police say a group of adults and juveniles were on the street when the shooting happened, but as of Monday it wasn't clear why.
Police also say Adams is not believed to have been the intended target, but didn't say who may have been.
"There is some element to this crime that leads us to believe there is some gang involvement. The total extent is still something we're working on," said Danville Police Department Lt. Mike Wallace.
Wallace added that tips are coming in, but as of Monday no suspects had been identified.
