AMHERST COUNTY, Va. – UPDATE
Power is now back to those affected by the outage.
Electricity has been restored to all but 950 of the nearly 2,400 customers who lost power Tuesday morning.
Crews are fixing the broken pole now and estimate that the remaining customers will have power by 2:30 p.m.
More than 2,300 Appalachian Power customers in Amherst County are without electricity Tuesday.
A tree fell and broke the top of a utility pole, according to an AEP spokeswoman. Crews are working to switch customers to alternate circuits while repairs are being made.
Power is expected to come back on by 11:30 a.m.
