LYNCHBURG, Va. – UPDATE
Fort Ave. in Lynchburg is now open.
A Lynchburg road that required major repairs after a sinkhole is now expected to fully reopen later this week.
Fort Ave. is down to one lane in each direction from Graves Mill to Fenwick Drive.
Crews have finished backfilling the excavated area, so this week they are paving and replacing guardrails.
Originally, crews estimated that the road would be open by Monday, but the new estimate is Thursday.
In the meantime, drivers are asked to use Wards Road and Route 460 to avoid Fort Ave.
