Missing Buena Vista man found in Roanoke

ORANGE, Va. – UPDATE (8/30 1:10 p.m.): Simmons was safely located in Roanoke Wednesday morning.


Police are searching for a missing Buena Vista man who was last seen in Orange, Virginia on Sunday.

Richard Lee Simmons, 43, who goes by Lee, was last seen in the town of Orange in the early morning hours of Sunday.

Simmons reportedly left an apartment in Oakbrook Estates and went to the Sheetz on Madison Road.

He was reported missing by his fiancee Monday when he did not return.

Police say information gathered during the initial investigation indicates that he was heading back to the Buena Vista area with two others, who have been identified and are cooperating with the investigation at this time.

Simmons is about 6-feet-4-inches tall and weighs more than 350 pounds.

The Town of Orange Police Department is working with the Virginia State Police and other law enforcement agencies in the Buena Vista area. Anyone with information about Simmons is asked to contact dispatch at 540-672-1200.
