The Bridges opens second building in South16 apartment complex

Second South16 building includes fifth-floor viewing deck

ROANOKE, Va. – The Bridges continues to expand along Jefferson Street near the Carilion Clinic with a second building in the South16 apartment complex officially opening Wednesday.

The new building, which managers said is filling up quickly, has 127 units, an outdoor recreation area that includes a patio overlooking the Roanoke Star, a salt water swimming pool and a fifth-floor viewing deck.

Project manager Aaron Ewert said this is only the beginning of new development to the fast growing community.

“We're obviously excited about the Jefferson corridor that has been created across the street with the Virginia Tech Medical School and Research Center. We certainly have some more plans to build, and we are working with Carilion on some of their long-term projects. There’s certainly going to be more to do,” Ewert said.

During the next 10 years, The Bridges is planning to grow to 1 million square feet of residential, retail and office space that will connect downtown with the Roanoke River.
