Here's a look at some of the stories we'll be following today


The first convocation of the fall semester takes place this afternoon at Liberty University with a big name in NASCAR expected to speak.  Four-time Cup Series champion Jeff Gordon, along with Liberty sophomore and NASCAR driver William Byron will speak.  Byron is the Xfinity Series rookie, who is driving the Number 9 Liberty University Chevy Camaro.  Convocation starts at 2 p.m. in the Vines Center.

A new apartment building opens today in Roanoke.  The second building at South 16 will open today.  The new building has one, two and three bedroom apartments, a pool, fitness center and deck. 

The Virginia Cooperative Extension starts a training course for gardeners who want to serve the community.  The Master Gardener Training will take place twice a week through mid-October.  It will teach you how to be a better gardner and practice earth-friendly habits so you can teach others.
