Local organizations jump into action to help animals impacted by Hurricane Harvey

Pet toys, cleaning supplies most needed

ROANOKE, Va. – People in Houston aren't the only ones feeling the impact of Hurricane Harvey.

Many animals are also in need of help.

Several local organizations are jumping into action.

Donations are being collected at City Dogs until Tuesday.

The Roanoke Moose Lodge is also collecting items until Sept.13.

“This is a long-term operation, so cleaning supplies are critical in order to be able to clean up after the animals. The other thing that's really needed for the pets are toys,” said CEO Denise Hayes, of the Roanoke Valley SPCA.

Hayes says food is not needed at this time, as many pet food groups are sending major food supplies.
