Roanoke police investigating early morning armed robbery

ROANOKE, Va. – Roanoke police are investigating the reported armed robbery of a food truck delivery driver that happened early Friday morning.

At 12:19 a.m. police responded to the 3200 block of Ordway Drive NW to investigate a reported armed robbery.

The victim, a 53-year-old food truck delivery driver from Newport, Tennessee, told officers that as he and a colleague were unloading their truck, making a delivery to a restaurant, a man approached them, brandished what appeared to be a handgun and demanded money, according to police.

When the victim told the suspect he didn't have any money, so the robber took the victim's phone and ran away toward Ferncliff Avenue.

The victim was not hurt.

Police say the robber is a young black man, possibly in his late teens, about 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing about 135 pounds.
