What's News Today: September 4, 2017

Here's a look at some of the stories we'll be following today

Buena Vista holds its annual Labor Day Festival.  The event features a parade, political speeches, entertainment and ends with fireworks.  Events start at 8 a.m. with the parade at 9:30 a.m. and fireworks at 9 p.m.  A big part of this events are the speeches by area politicians.  Those are scheduled from 11 a.m.

Before the festivities begin, the Buena Vista Democratic Committee holds its annual Labor Day Breakfast.  Senator Tim Kaine, Lieutenant Governor Ralph Northam, Attorney General Mark Herring and State Senator Creigh Deeds are expected to attend.  According to a party representative, none of these office holders are expected to take part in the parade.

Lynchburg firefighters will be out collecting money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.  The Fill the Boot campaign will help with research aimed at finding a cure.  Anniversary calendars featuring fire fighters will also go on sale.
