Winds pushed the fire west on Monday and smoke has blown over much of the gorge and Portland metro area.

Still, many residents in areas threatened by the flames are staying to support the firefighters.

Local restaurant owners say they wouldn't leave town, at least not until they made firefighters feel the love with cookies, chowder and pizza.

As the fire continues to burn, winds have carried thick smoke as far away as Portland, prompting an air quality alert in the area into Tuesday.
