Hurricane Irma relief preparations stretching God's Pit Crew's resources thin

Organization simultaneously trying to continue helping people in Texas

DANVILLE, Va. – God's Pit Crew is doing everything it can to prepare to help victims of Hurricane Irma while continuing to help victims of Hurricane Harvey.

The Danville-based nonprofit has sent 25 tractor trailer loads of relief supplies to Texas and a team of volunteers is there helping clean up.

God's Pit Crew is now completely out of Blessing Buckets, the organization's disaster relief kits, but hopes to get enough volunteers to put together 2,500 on Saturday.

If Irma is as bad as it's predicted to be though, God's Pit Crew CEO Randy Johnson says those buckets won't last long.

"(These hurricanes are) stretching us absolutely to the max," Johnson said. "There's no doubt about that. I don't think we've ever quite been in this position before, but we have a wonderful team of volunteers and staff members."

Johnson says he has already started making contact with churches and organizations in Florida to set up locations for supplies to be delivered if needed.
