Lynchburg's Fire Department collects money for 'Fill the Boot' campaign

Firefighters say money goes towards Muscular Dystrophy Association

LYNCHBURG, Va.
Lynchburg's Fire Department collect donations for the Fill the Boot campaign.

All week long, firefighters have been standing in major intersections across the city asking drivers to donate to the Muscular Dystrophy Association. The department picks one week out of the year to fill the boot for the charity.

According to the charity, the money helps fund research for new treatments, Support MDA care centers and send kids to MDA summer camp.

"I guess the nature of what we do anyway as firefighters, we're there to help people and that's what we enjoy doing. This is just another way to give back,” Todd Styles, master firefighter with LFD, said.

Firefighters say last year, they collected about $18,000 dollars. They will continue to collect donations throughout the weekend.
