ROANOKE Va. -- – An investigation is underway after an inmate was found dead in his cell.
Joshua Mathew Jones was found hanging in his cell by a bedsheet on Saturday evening, the Roanoke City Sheriff's Office and the Roanoke Police Department say.
Deputies began CPR and call the jail's medical staff and 911. Both the jail's medical staff and the 911 medical staff performed lifesaving procedures but were unsuccessful in reviving him.Â
He was pronounced dead at 10:37 pm.
The initial investigation shows Jones took steps to end his life in between the routine security rounds, but the investigation is ongoing.
Jones was being held without bail for failure to appear, possession of schedule I or II drugs, larceny second conviction and larceny third or subsequent conviction.
