Missing Pittsylvania County senior found dead, no foul play suspected


PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. – An 81-year-old Pittsylvania County man has been found dead after nearly two weeks of search and rescue efforts. 

State police had issued a senior alert for James Gianakos, who was first reported missing August 27. After three unsuccessful searches, he was found along Oak Hill Road during a search on Saturday that involved dogs. 

There were no signs of foul play, according to the Pittsylvania County Sheriff's Office.

A medical examiner will determine his exact cause of death.
