Change at Sovah Health Hospital could bring higher quality service

Hospital contracting with new company for laundry, food services

DANVILLE, Va. – A change at Sovah Health Hospital in Southside could help the hospital provide higher quality service.

In November, the hospital will start contracting with HHS instead of Sodexo to provide food and laundry services.

As a result, the hospital announced Friday that the 158 employees currently working in those service departments will be laid off and then rehired by the new company.

Hospital CEO Alan Larson said there is nothing wrong with Sodexo's service, this change is strictly business.

"This was primarily a business decision that we made through a number of hospitals, not just in Danville and Martinsville, but other hospitals here in this region and others throughout our parent company, Life Point, that have built a favorable relationship with HHS," Larson said.

The hsopital's contract with HHS takes effect Nov. 6.
