Teen hospitalized after being hit by Lynchburg police car

Injuries are not believed to be life-threatening

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Police are investigating after a 17-year-old girl was hit by a Lynchburg police car on Monday afternoon.

Just before 3 p.m., an officer was driving west on Fort Avenue responding to an emergency call. As the officer approached the intersection of Fort Avenue and Griffin Street, a girl walked into the road in front of the car, according to the police department.

Police say the car hit the girl, who was transported to Lynchburg General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Fort Avenue was closed for about two hours and has since been reopened.
