Montgomery County Sheriff's Office collecting more supplies for hurricane victims

After a successful donation drive, the sheriff's office decided to do one more.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Va.

Relief efforts for hurricane victims continue Monday night in southwest Virginia.

Earlier this month, the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office collected supplies for people in Texas. Now thanks to the overwhelming support of the community, the sheriff's office is doing another drive for people in Florida.

With the help of Blue Ridge Church and Volvo, volunteers will be collecting supplies throughout this week until the truck is filled.

"The community is always top notch to jump in. They're always pushing us to help and we love it. We want to be there to help when we can," said Capt. Brian Wright, support services for the sheriff's office.

The sheriff's office partnered with Hearts with Hands disaster relief based in Asheville, North Carolina to help distribute supplies in Florida.

Some of the most needed items include pop-top canned goods, dry milk, non-perishable food, hygiene items, paper supplies and cleaning supplies.

The supplies can be dropped off at the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. until Friday.
