DANVILLE, Va. – A Danville man is recovering after his truck crashed down an embankment.

The crash happened at the intersection of Worsham and Taft streets.

According to Danville Fire Department Battalion Chief Brian Alderson, as the driver was coming down Worsham Street, he hit a public works vehicle and then careened down the nearby wooded embankment.

The Danville Life Saving Crew extricated the driver of the truck and treated him at the scene before taking him to the hospital in Danville.

No public works employees were injured.

"The public works vehicle was parked on the side of the road. He crossed over and hit that," Alderson explained.

"The driver was pinned in. They pulled a door away, the driver's door away, and was able to get him out and then use a Stokes basket to bring him up."

The crash remained under investigation Tuesday evening.
