New vinyl mural arriving in downtown Roanoke

People encouraged to take selfies in front of new mural

ROANOKE,Va. – A new vinyl mural is going up Thursday on the Southside of the Ramp building in downtown Roanoke.

The 22-foot-by-10 foot mural is a part of the beautification process for the downtown area and will read "Greetings from Roanoke." It was designed by graphic artist Joe Collins and will be placed on the building.

Virginia Western Community College, the Virginia Western College Educational Foundation and Downtown Roanoke Inc. each contributed to the installation of the new sign.

The goal is to attract visitors and members of the community to promote storefront and business beautification.

“Our hope is that people stop by and take selfies and post them on social media and make people aware that they are enjoying what Roanoke has to offer,” said Josh Meyer, director of marketing and communications for Virginia Western Community College.

The completion of this project is just one step in the beautification of the downtown area. There will be more upcoming beautification projects in the next 18 months.
