Anthem no longer covering MRI or CT scans at hospital-owned outpatient facilities
Patients required to use independent imaging centers
ROANOKE, Va. –
Health insurer Anthem has announced that it will no longer allow nonemergency patients to get magnetic resonance imaging scans or CT scans at hospital-owned outpatient facilities.
This means that patients would be required to use independent imaging centers instead.
Anthem began implementing these changes in July and expects to finish by March.
Doctors who request outpatient MRI or CT scans will be given a list of centers eligible for patient referrals.
The new policy does not apply to mammograms or X-rays.
