Two escape Roanoke house fire by jumping from porch rooftop

The American Red Cross is assisting

ROANOKE, Va. – Two people escaped a house fire by jumping from a porch rooftop, according to the Roanoke Fire-EMS Department.

The fire at a home on the 1100 block of Fairfax Ave. is now under control after firefighters spent Monday morning battling it.

The two people who were inside heard their smoke alarm and discovered the fire, which was right below their room. It was too hot to go down the stairs so they had to jump from the porch rooftop. They were not hurt.

The American Red Cross will help those who were displaced.

The cause is under investigation.
