Meeting to be held in Danville to discuss bicycle needs for region

West Piedmont Planning District Commission seeking public's feedback

DANVILLE, Va. – The West Piedmont Planning District Commission is trying to update its regional bicycle plan and wants to hear from you.

On Tuesday from 5 to 6:30 p.m., a public input meeting will be held at Danville Regional Airport.

The commission's current bicycle plan has been in place since 2003 and has never been updated.

Feedback collected from Tuesday night's meeting will be used to update the plan to meet the current needs of the region.

"We're looking for everything: where bike lanes could be, where people want to see more bicycling on existing roads, and even hazards," said WPPDC regional planner Joe Bonanno.

A draft version of the updated plan will likely be released sometime in December for the public to comment on, Bonanno said.

He anticipates the final version being adopted in December as well.

If you can't make Tuesday's meeting, you can fill out an online survey.
