Danville City Council set to discuss airport FBO recommendation

Mayor's committee has recommended continuing with current company

DANVILLE, Va. – The future of fixed base operations at Danville Regional Airport could become a little clearer Tuesday night.

A special committee created earlier this year by Danville Mayor John Gilstrap to determine who should manage the fixed base operations was scheduled to present its recommendation at Tuesday night's city council work session.

The committee recommends the city continue with the current company for two more years.

The airport commission, however, has recommended Averett University take over.

"I anticipate major discussion tonight," Gilstrap said. "On that committee, there were only two councilmen and they had split votes."

Gilstrap said he anticipated a straw poll being taken during Tuesday night's work session and he anticipated the vote being split.

City council members will take a final vote at the Nov. 7 council meeting.
