Video shows thieves stealing items from car in driveway

Roanoke woman wants to warn others about leaving doors unlocked

ROANOKE, Va. – People in Roanoke are still dealing with thieves stealing items in their cars, despite those incidents usually decreasing at this time of year.

A Roanoke woman wants to tell people about what happened to her, to warn others about the risks of not locking their car doors.

Kim Archer posted surveillance video from her house to social media. You can see people getting into her car at night in northeast Roanoke and taking items inside. She admits that she didn’t lock her doors - something she says she’ll pay more attention to now.

She says she found most of what the thieves stole nearby, strewn along the side of the road. She says it’s hard to believe that people would do this.

“That somebody would be that brazen just to walk up in someone’s driveway at 9 o’clock and pop their doors open and do what they wanted to do with the stuff inside," she said.

Archer has filed a police report. She says other people in the area have reached out to her on social media saying they’ve had similar experiences recently.

October is on pace to stay level with September for an average of two cases per day of theft from cars in Roanoke.
