Local reaction to Manafort and Gates indictments

ROANOKE, Va.- – Local political experts are also weighing in on the recent indictments handed down by Robert Mueller.

10 News analyst Dr. Ed Lynch believes the investigation will be a distraction for the Trump administration.

He says the charges are serious and it will take a lot of time and effort to get Paul Manafort and Rick Gates to open up and then, strike a deal.

Lynch said he wouldn't be surprised if President Trump asked for a pardon before anyone goes to trial.

"But the more serious the charge the more difficult it is to prove and the more difficult it is to get a jury to go along with a conviction, so in the long run, I think Mueller would have been better off with a lesser charge that would not be so much of a media splash and a better change of a conviction,"
