Reported home armed robbery causes temporary lockdowns at multiple Bedford County schools

Lockdowns originally issued at advice of law enforcement

BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. – A reported home armed robbery prompted perimeter lockdowns at five Bedford County Schools Wednesday afternoon, according to the Bedford County Sheriff's Office.

At 1:30 p.m., Bedford County 911 dispatchers received a call from a man on West Crossing Drive in Forest that two black males wearing ski masks entered his home armed with a handgun.

The suspects took the caller's safe and left in a gray SUV, according to the Sheriff's Office.

As a precautionary measure, the Sheriff's Office says Jefferson Forest High School, Forest Middle School, Forest Elementary School, Thomas Jefferson Elementary School and New London Academy were placed on a perimeter lock-down, which was lifted at 2:20 p.m.

Bedford County Sheriff’s deputies are actively searching the area for the suspect vehicle.
