Two items found during drug searches at Bedford County high schools

BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. – The Bedford County Sheriff’s Office found two items during a pre-planned drug search of the county’s three high schools Thursday morning.

Shortly after the first bell, school resource officers called for a low-level lockdown of Jefferson Forest, Liberty and Staunton River high schools. Students had to remain in their classrooms, but teachers were able to continue teaching.

Deputies found a pellet gun in one student’s car and a small amount of marijuana in another student’s backpack.

The timing of this operation was based on resource availability, not specific concerns.

Bedford County Sheriff’s deputies, with the assistance of narcotics K-9s, led the search. K-9s from Sheriff's Offices in Amherst County, Campbell County, Pittsylvania County and the Rocky Mount Police Department assisted in the operation.
