Sheriff's offices team up to collect hurricane relief supplies at Food Lions

Supplies to be donated to help God's Pit Crew relief efforts

SOUTHSIDE, Va. – Hurricane recovery efforts are still underway in Southside as the Pittsylvania and Henry County sheriff's offices collected relief supplies at Food Lion grocery stores on Friday.

The supplies will be given to God's Pit Crew to take to Texas, Florida and Puerto Rico, which were all hit with deadly storms earlier this year.

"This is just, in a small way, what we can do here through our Sheriff's Office to help replenish those supplies," said Pittsylvania County Sheriff Mike Taylor.

"Local churches have donated here in the area and we just thought we'd do our part and help with the collections, both money and, as you see, toiletries," said Lt. Steve Raines with the Henry County Sheriff's Office.

God's Pit Crew has sent over 100 semitruck loads of relief supplies so far to hurricane victims and continues to help the impacted areas rebuild.
