Roanoke First Baptist Church reacts to Texas shooting

First Baptist expressed sorrow over the loss of life

ROANOKE, Va. – Following the shooting that has left more than 20 dead and dozens more wounded in Sutherland Springs, Texas, a church in Roanoke is responding with sorrow.

Pastor Dr. Bryan Smith of Roanoke First Baptist Church said in a statement he's calling for Christians everywhere to "pray for God's mercy and grace" following what he calls a "despicable act of evil and violence."

"Our Church family is heartbroken tonight, along with the rest of our Southern Baptist Convention and America over the news of so many Christians being shot and wounded while worshipping together this morning at First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs, Texas. We are calling on our members and Christians everywhere tonight to pray for God's mercy and grace for our brothers and sisters in Christ who have suffered such a despicable act of evil and violence." - Dr. Bryan Smith.
