Joseph Yost loses 12th District seat to Chris Hurst

Yost held the seat since 2011

GILES COUNTY, Va. – Republican incumbent Joseph Yost lost the 12th District seat he's held since 2011 to Chris Hurst.

Supporters for Yost at the Giles Country Club grew very quiet as the results came in throughout the night.

Just after 9 p.m.,  Yost and his wife walked through to hug and shake the hands of the small group of supporters who gathered for what they hoped would be a victory party.

Yost thanked his family and those who cheered him on for the work he's done for education and mental health and the Mountain Valley Pipeline project since he was first elected as a delegate six years ago.

"I just want to thank everybody. We've got a lot to be proud of, we've got a lot to be thankful for in what we've done together," said Yost.

After his speech at the podium, Yost and his family refused to give any more interviews to the media.
