Intercity bus program to bring new transportation options across Virginia

Virginia Breeze launches in Blacksburg on Friday

BLACKSBURG, Va. – A new intercity bus program connecting travelers to Washington, D.C. is just days away from launching in Blacksburg.

Starting Friday, the Virginia Breeze will make daily trips from Virginia Tech to Union Station in D.C. It will leave from the student center at 8 a.m. and arrive in D.C. at 2:30 p.m.

Stops along the route include Christiansburg, Lexington, Staunton, Harrisonburg, Front Royal, Dulles Airport and Arlington.

The goal is to connect rural communities with the national bus network.

"We’re excited not only for college students to be here, but also families want to see different parts of the state," Department of Rail and Public Transportation spokesperson Kelsey Webb said.

A one-way ticket from Blacksburg to Union Station costs about $50.
