LYNCHBURG, Va. – A Lynchburg library is closed tonight because of bedbugs found in some of the books. Officials at the Lynchburg Downtown Library in City Hall say earlier this week staff noticed a bedbug in one of their new books and put it in a plastic bag. Librarians then found more bugs near the "new books" section.  Â

“Because we handle the materials as they come back in. We check them in manually. So that gives us the opportunity to look the item over. And staff was great about noticing that,” said Marilyn Martin the director of Lynchburg Public Library.Â
Library officials notified the last person to check out the book and advised them to check their home. The city says according to the pest control company, the problem is contained and is not expected to spread to other areas of the building. This weekend the library will undergo a thermal process where the building is heated up to 120 degrees to kill the bugs. The library is expected to reopen on Monday.
