Hundreds of neglected farm animals recovered in Louisa County

LOUISA COUNTY, Va. – Hundreds of neglected animals are being recovered from a farm in Louisa County after deputies said they found close to 500 abused and neglected animals, including horses, goats, chickens and rabbits.

The animals were found on what appears to be an abandoned property.

Crews are doing their best to save as many animals as possible, but some are still trapped in different areas of the farm.

"It's a typical hoarder where there's a complete mess everywhere," said Louisa County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Donald Lowe. "You have to watch where you're walking and what you're touching. And you'll see animals in desperate need of help."

Deputies say animal cruelty and neglect charges are pending.
