What's News Today: December 8, 2017

Here's a look at some of the stories we'll be following today

Jefferson College of Health Sciences holds its winter commencement today.  126 students will receive their diplomas today.  The ceremony begins this morning at 10 a.m. at the Berglund Special Events Center.

The Northside High School boys basketball teams will give back to the community.  Today, the team will collect canned food and used coats at its game tonight.  The team will also collect items at the Hollins Kroger between noon and 2 p.m. tomorrow.  Proceeds will benefit the Roanoke Rescue Mission.

The second night of Dickens of a Christmas is tonight.  In addition to the vendors, there will be a Winter Carnival.  You can buy a wrist band for $5 and enjoy the rides, which include a carousel, monkey maze, jungle crawl and more.  The carnival runs from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.  This year's Christmas parade is tomorrow night at 6 p.m.

A new escape room opens at Valley View Mall today.  All in Adventures will open today with nine rooms.  The adventures change every 18 weeks.  The new business is located on the lower level near Sears.

Radio station WYYD continues its annual Country Cares for St. Jude Kids radiothon today.  Between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. today, you can and make a donation to St. Jude.  The children's hospital treats patients, even if the family does not have the ability to pay.
